Mortal Kombat: Rebirth

Here's the picture of Subzero from the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film in case you missed it.

Saw the Mortal Kombat Rebirth Trailer/Short film, gotta say I love it! A couple things don't really make logical sense. Why send an actor undercover, I mean would he be instantly recognizable? How is it Baraka and Reptile can go anywhere without being immediately arrested. I mean they are both incredibly disfigured and recognizable, they could never just blend it, they be recognized and shot on sight.

Other then that a realistic Mortal Kombat would be an interesting take on the series, considering that it has always be grounded in magic and mystisim. I hope that this movie gets made and that they use a the added production values to help pump up the script and flesh out the story. Also I don't like the fact that Johnny Cage gets killed off, he's the only one who could provide comic relief, and a movie this dark could use a little comic relief.

I'm a first time writer, longtime listener, and I had a nagging question that I hoped you guys could answer for me. I happen to own an Xbox 360 and a PS3 but what I don't own is four controllers for each. I don't usually play four person games at my house, but it'd be nice to have four controllers in the event that I did. Unfortunatly I'm really not interested in buying four controllers per system. Is there any company that makes a controller that works for the PS3 and 360. I know there are some arcade sticks that are universal, but I just want a controller This shouldn't that big a deal to create as the two controllers share almost identical button layouts.

Mega Man 9 boss leak

I'm a big fan of Mega Man, maybe a little bit too big. So I was checking out the recently released Mega Man 9 trailer and decided to do a little frame by frame dissection of the video, just to see if there were any gameplay details I could find. I was also interested in learning more about the bosses, because this is the one element of the game which Capcom has kept secret. Anyways towards the end of the trailer Mega Man is created using a mosiac of video from the game, neat idea BTW, and while going frame by frame through this part of the trailer I was able to make out what I think is a boss fight between Splash Woman and Mega Man. See the evidence for yourself.

Well, for starters this character has no legs, and is holding what I believe to be a trident, features which are both evident by the silloette featured in the begining of the trailer.

Ok, this has been the first blog to come onto this site in almost a year, the reason being is that I have been spending most of my time working on my offical DJMphoto blog. Most of my blog updates had to do with photography and work, not with my personal life. This is kind of an oxymoron, considering my personal life and my professional life are so intertwined. Anyways, The Murph Files is dedicated to my personal life exclusivly, and now I have a new post which just deals with my personal life.

I have moved a lot in the last year. In the first few months of 2007 I moved out of my townhouse in Jacksonville, to a co-workers house, to a hotel, then to a barracks room and then to Iraq. While I was in Iraq I moved from one room to another. After I got back from Iraq I moved into a barracks room, stayed in two different hotels and finally moved to New York. In New York I stayed with my then-girlfriend in her Aunt's house, got kicked out, moved into the attic of a Iranian-Jew a few blocks down the street, then moved to Ridgewood, Queens, where I lived until Thursday, Feb 15, 2008.

I now live in Speonk, NY, about 2 hours from the City, in a pool house. The space isn't that bad, the neighborhood is quiet, and I'm only a few minutes from my job. So overall things are that bad and to illustrate, I've included links of galleries from my old place in Ridgewood, which was about 7' x 13', to this new place which is about 12' x 15'.

Blogging in Dutch

So I'm back on the internets now, albeit with a short delay to a little military deployment, and when I going in to Blogger to make a new post the whole thing is in Dutch. Weird huh? Well its all because out internet signal is routed through Dutch servers and so they assume that we are Dutch. I've seen the same thing on Myspace.com, but I was able to fix that. This though I'm not sure how to fix. It's kind of tough considering everything is in DUTCH!

Anyways, things are rolling along pretty smoothly here in Fallujah. It's acutally not too bad once you get used to the rythm. It's kind of like living in a small fortified city. I actually feel really safe for the most part, but then again I haven't gone outside the wire, so who knows what will happen. I've seen a sharp increase in the amount of money I have in my bank account thanks to the fact that I'm not spending any money. It's actually pretty easy to get by out here with no cash. All food is provided for us, so the only thing I really spend my money on is bottles of Iced Tea and Red Bull. Inf act I don't even need cash since they have card readers here for our credit cards.

I'm finally getting on track with my schooling. It's been a struggle to catch up, but I'm almost there. By next week I should be at the same level with all my other classmates. I couldn't have done it without the help of my teachers who gave me copius extensions to get my work done. Well I better stop spitting out information because I'm bound to say something secret.

Still not in Falujah. A perfect sandstorm has prevented us from flying out. Not so bad I guess, just have to spend another day here in...well I won't say where I am exactly. Still the chow hall is great and I've got access to the internet so I'm cool. Oh, BTW, I made 60 bucks playing Texas Hold'em. Not bad for a 3 hours of playing. It really is a great game, and I'm so addicted. Well, I'm going to get some sleep, I just stayed up all night and I need it. Next time I write I'll be in Iraq.

In Iraq

Feb. 4, 2007 -
Arrived in Iraq just a few hours ago. Not at my final destination, Falujah, yet, but I will be there in a few days. Right now I'm just chilling at an air base while I wait for my next flight. The next flight will take use to Falujah via helicopter at night.

The first thing I did after dropping off my bags was go to the chow hall, and let me tell you it was even better then the last one. In this huge building was every type of food I could possibly imagine and it all looked so good. My only regret was that I couldn't eat it all. Anyways after chow I went to this rec center/phone center and am using the internet now to write this blog. I only have a few minutes left, but I'll try and get on tommorow.

Iraq or Bust

On Feb. 1, 2007 I left Camp Lejeune, NC and headed towards Iraq. I spent a total of about 16 hours on plane rides getting to where I am, which is not yet Iraq. At the time of this writing I am in Kuwait, a country just south of Iraq. My group, 2D Marine Division, will be heading to Falujah in the coming. Camp Virginia, where I am currently staying is really nice. Their chow hall is first class and there is a brand new USO rec center which is freaking awesome. This place has really comfortable couch's, Xboxes and a mini-movie theatre. Really, really nice and relaxing too. Of course this is all in preparation for the big move to Iraq where things will get much more serious and dangerous.

I can't tell you when will be in Falujah, but it will be soon. Right now though I'm just enjoying the amenities of Camp Virginia, Kuwait. It's still hard to believe all this is really happening and that I'm in a foreign country about to go into a war zone. I will try to update this blog as much as often to give you updates about my experience. Please leave comments and I will see you all when I come back.

I'm sick and tired of flaky people. You know who they are, their the people who you send communication to whether it be via cell phone, e-mail, text message, smoke signal or whatever, and they choose to ignore you. I can understand when people are busy and they simply forget to respond to a communiqué, but the people who willing choose to never respond are the vilest forms of life on earth to me. Case in point, I had a friend who I knew for a long time move away. I kept their phone number and kept in touch, visiting every once and a while. After a while they stopped returning my phone calls, repeated phone calls. Finally they changed their phone number and never told me, thanks a lot "friend."

Israel Doc Back on Track

After much delay and a few major set backs, I have resumed work on the documentary project. I had a problem with the hard drive I was using to store all the photos and video on, the hard drive crashed and I almost lost everything. Thankfully I had back ups of the pictures and I also had all my video saved.

The good news is that I am back on track and ready to get some work done. I have begun scouring through the hours of video I captured looking for the good, juicy, storytelling bits. By mid-September I plan to have a trailer up for download. Till then just be paintent, it is coming along, and I still plan to have it finished before the spring semester starts.

Anyways, till then keep it real!

I've been a wee bit lazy

Well, lazy is a strong word, in fact it's just the oppisite I've been too busy. You see I work a full day, from about 6 a.m. to about 4:30 pm I'm doing something marine corps related. After work, I'm just too tired to work on website or documentaries. Then I decide to work on that stuff during the weekend and I plan to do that, but then I get all caught up in going on a road trip and never have the time.

When the stars do align, and I have the time to work on something I am usually struck down by a technical diffuculty. For instance I was going to do some work on the Birthright Israel Documentary last night, but the external hard drive I am using is wonking out on me. So I tried to move the files to a new hard drive, and the old one still gets hung up on stuff. So until I get that fixed my project is delayed.

The other thing that is slowing me down, and this is completely my fault, is videogames. I am completely addicted to Resident Evil 4, and GTA San Andres. Sorry, but those games are just calling my name all the time, and it's tough to resist them. But I promise you I am trying to get the stuff done, and I think, about it all the time.

I like to scuba dive. Going under water and view sea life in its environment is always a thrill for me. The only thing I don't like about scuba diving is taking a boat to the location where I am going to dive.

Today I went scuba diving and let's just say I realized that I get seasick when I go on boats. This isn't the first time I've been seasick, in fact everytime I have gone on a boat I have either been quesy or seasick. I thought "Hey, I'm not prone to sea sickness, these are just isolated incidents." Well, today, I finally came to the conclusion that I am prone to sea sickness.

So that's it, I get sick when I go on boats... oh well. I also get sick on helicopters, but that's another story.

I ♥ Hummus

I finally got me some tasty hummus today. I had been craving the stuff ever since I came back from Israel. My first exprience with hummus was back when I was in middle school. For one of my classes I needed to bring an international dish to school. I couldn't think of anything to bring and it was getting close to deadline.

Well at about 8 pm the night before my dish was due my brother Joe comes to the house and suggests hummus. I had never heard of hummus but I was desperate for a solution to my problem. So we went down to Winn Dixie and roved the eisles looking for hummus. Eventually we came upon some powdered hummus and I snatched it up.

When we got home Joe helped me make the hummus. When the dish was finished I looked at the light brown mixture with a big of curiousity. In short, it didn't exactly look apitizing. With wheat thin in had I made my first tenative dip into the strange new food.

The first thing I noticed was the unusual texture as the hummus hit my tounge. As with all new foods I chewed slowly, as to give myself the chance to take in the taste of the food at a reasonable pace. By doing this I give myself an exit window so if I don't like what I was eating I can spit it out. After finishing the cracker without any gagging, puking or dying, I knew I had found a favorite new food.

The next day I brought my hummus dish to school. Not only was my dish unique, but it was also well recieved. Many of the students who tried the dish were just as wary and cautious as I was about the new food, but after taking the first inquisitive step into the land of hummus and crackers they almost all loved it.

After my first exprience with hummus I'm sorry to say that I never made the stuff again. I mean sure, I had hummus again, at a couple parties and social gatherings, but that was at most, maybe once a year. For the most part though, hummus was never again a part of my life...that was, of course, until Israel.

Going to Israel and eating hummus at almost every meal, even the inflight meals, made me love hummus all over again. The stuff tasted even more incredible that I had remembered. After coming back to the U.S. I vowed to eat hummus again, but I didn't have time to really think about it until after I had settled into Camp Lejeune.

Well know that I have my hummus I'm ready to revisit my memories of Israel and work on my Birthright Israel documentary project. Mmmmm...Hummus.

In other news I got a Graphire 3 Wacom Tablet. It's awesome.

4th of July Weekend

Longest Saftey Brief Ever

You know I've been in the Marine Corps for almost 6 years, and during that six year I have been a party to more safety briefs then I want to remember. Today though, I exprienced the longest saftey brief of my career, almost 2 hours. In my opinion a safety brief should be no longer than 5 minutes. And almost all safety briefs boil down to these three statements "If your going to drink, don't drive. If your going to drive don't drink. If your going to tap it, wrap it." That's about the jist of any saftey brief I will ever give.

Other than that, my plan is to explore my imeadiate surroundings, take photos, and just enjoy the holiday season.

It's an incredibaly hot Monday. I have been sweating all day. This is as bad as Florida. At least when I was in California there was only dry heat so it wasn't as bad.

Settling in but not settling down

Well I finally feel comfortable in the barracks. It took a few days of cleaning, rearranging, and unpacking for me to finally get to a point where I don't feel utterly disgusted every time I walk through the front door. But, there is still a lot of work to do.

In the mean time I will begin, finally, working on all the big projects I had been planning on doing after my vacation is over. The first up is my photographic stories website, the redesign of my personal site and finally the Israel documentary. While I'm working on the "Big 3" I'll also be setting up my wedding photo business, finishing up my bachelors degree, reworking the repro section of my shop, freelance at the local paper.

Whew! In short I will be busy.

Apartment Flop

I had been hoping beyond all hope that I would get approved for BAH and be able to live in an apartment, but to no avail my dreams were dashed recently. By not approving me for BAH the final had been driven into the coffin of my dream. It would be too taxing on my budget to live out in town without outside financial support, so I just have to wait for now.

Checking In to Camp Lejeune

Well, I spent the majority of the day checking into the division Headquarters of Camp Lejeune, N.C. The process and boring, involving some paperwork and a few classes.

After finishing division check in procedure I will continue on the Battalion Check-in procedure which will take me at least another day or so.

Went base pool today. It was an indoor pool. I would have preferred an outdoor pool, but after spending all day in Alpha's I was happy just to swim.

Tonight I plan to see Batman Begins. In my next blog I will contribute my thoughts to the blog.

Fayetteville, N.C.

Just spent the weekend in Fayetteville, N.C., and I stayed on the Fort Bragg Army Base at the Airborne Inn. They gave me a really nice room with a fridge, microwave and all the regular accessories. Since the base is so close to Fayetteville mom and I were able to go into town with no problem. We saw all the museums that Fayetteville had to offer including the art museum, Airborne museum and the Cape Fear history museum. At the Cape Fear museum visitors could tour the home of Edgar Allen Poe...no not the writer, the brick maker. Yeah, I know, kind of disappointing.

Other then that, this is pretty much the end of my vacation. I will check into Camp Lejeune tonight, and after that pretty much start working. I'll still be going on road trips though, and I plan to update this blog whenever I get a chance.

Florence, S.C. - Dentist Capitol of the U.S.

I'm in a awesome library in Florence, S.C. on my way to N.C., and I just wanted to tell you a little about what's going on. Well yesterday I tried out a restaurant call The Lady and Sons, which featured a bevy of southern foods. I had the buffet and filled myself to the limit with all kinds of foods including chicken, ribs, collard greens, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes among others.

Just finished visiting Tybee Island, which is right next to Savannah, GA. Beautiful place. Next where going to get dinner at a place Jack Carillo recommended called Lady & Son. Don't know what kind of food to expect, but if J.C. recommends it, its got to be good.

Back from the promised land

It was an awesome 10 days in Israel. During my time I saw Tel Aviv, the Golan Heights, the Dead Sea, the sun rise from Masada, Jerusalem, the Western Wall and much, much more. Besides that I met a bunch of great people. During my time in Israel I worked on a documentary about my experience. For the documentary I shot almost 9 hours of video, and over 2000 photographs. I also plan on shooting a little more video to help fill in some gaps, and I also plan to include some illustrations as well. It should turn out to be a great project.

I will upload some of my best photos to my website, www.djmphoto.com, when I roll out the next revision in a couple weeks.

I haven't forgotten about my other project, www.photographicstories.com, but I won't be able to devote time to that until I get more settled at Camp Lejeune.

Getting back to my roots

Tommorow I will be headed back to my homeland, Israel, to rediscover my Jewish heritage. I will be taking photographs, shooting video and also, for the first time on an adventure, making sketches. My hope is to combine the art forms into a documentary video for the student orginzation Hillel, which they can use to promote the program next year.

While there I will be uploading a photo-a-day when time permits and when I have access to the internet.

Well were down in D.C. during our spring break. It's not too bad, but it's not Florida, or Cali. Tommorow will be going to the Washington Times, and U.S. News and World Report. Then the next day will be at Ft. Meade, MD, at the Defense Information School attending MILPHOG. the military photographer of the year competition.

I'm doing video and photos to document the trip, maybe I'll have some up tommorow.

My Florida Vacation Adventure

I'm in Florida now. I've been here for about two days. I am here visiting my mother Maria. We are having a great time so far, and I hope we will continue to do so. I've been trying to keep myself busy with my video camera and digital camera. I plan to make a documentary about my mom. I'll try to conduct interviews while I am down here, then I'll edit the video when I get back home. Video takes up so much space!

Were going to Orlando tommorow, and I'll be shooting the Champs Bowl on the 21st of Dec for the Daily Orange, the Syrucuse University daily student newspaper. After that I have no idea what else we will be doing, but I'm sure it will be fun.
